A “I survived another meeting that should of been an email” ribbon, because it’s very relevant.

Oddly, I think we have more of the opposite now — endless, rambling emails that should have been meetings, but people are located in various places and everyone wants CYA, so it all ends up in writing.

What I’ve learned: People don’t read emails past the second sentence.

Ain’t that the truth. Of course people also don’t listen in meetings either, particularly the teleconference type.

My current project is global, so I can feel the pain. Though our meetings are insightful, it's just the sheer number of them that get annoying. I just need to phone in to the daily, which is hopefully only 15 minutes long.

One of the projects managers told me not to forward long emails, because people will want to read it, :p.

My company’s favorite thing now is producing 3 hour training videos when a half page instruction sheet would do. Oh, you've forgotten how to input miscellaneous expenses for reimbursement? That's two hours of nonsense before you get to the relevant info.

Some wise person somewhere said that, if one person does more than half the talking, there was no need to meet.

Hahaha. I’m suppose to get 40 hours of training in per year. Which isn’t bad, but 24 hrs had to be company approved training, that’s difficult. Searching for Java-related training on the company intranet shouldn’t be a chore, but it is. Funny part is, the company approved stuff isn’t special, it’s just things found on the normal internet that anyone can find and learn. It just has a ‘stamp of approval’ which I have discovered is given out like candy.

Some meetings are learning sessions, but some people learn by physically seeing it, not hearing it. Plus all my meetings are phone convos, which are annoying when I have to sit and listen for an hour or two, :/.

OMFukkinG, meetings. My second job was crazy about them, but it was also crazy about productivity. They’d blow away an hour and a half on bullshit then hammer us for not being fast enough at the job. Man, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk you with that, we could have gotten it done if not for the employee convention you demanded we hold every fucking day!!!!

Haha, I’ll have to remember employee convention.

My meetings are mostly phone. Thankfully, with the agile mindset, daily meetings are suppose to be 15 minutes long, which usually happens.

I had one boss who was nuts. He would spend all day in them and if you ever had to talk to him you’d always have to schedule before or after normal working hours.

I then had another who hated meetings so instead of getting everybody together it would be 5 x 1hour meetings between 2 people like a shitty version of the game telephone.

I have a personal policy of not working beyond work hours, mainly because i want an end to the workday. I have made exceptions for international calls though.
